Apartamento - Ricky Swallow
Born in San Remo, Victoria, artist Ricky Swallow graduated from the Victoria College of the Arts in 1997 and shortly after his career started to take off when he won the Contempora 5 Prize in Melbourne at age 25 and a few years later his work "This time another year" was selected to represent Australian at the 2005 Venice Biennale.
Working primarly with sculpture and using materials like bronze, cardboard, wood or rope, Ricky's early work gained recognition with his pieces depicting images related to popular culture, since 2002 he decided to move away from those high-resolution popular culture references and his work has since then evolved towards abstraction, object transformation and the use of everyday materials to deal with subjects like time and memory.
Ricky's work has been widely exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the National Gallery Of Victoria, PS1/ MoMA NY or The Whitney Museum among others, after living in London for a few years in the early 2000s Ricky moved to Los Angeles permanently in 2006, where he's represented by David Kordanski Gallery since 2014.
